12. Quasi-balance: bottom line of the balance.
Based on the study of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign classics, the Great Balance Theory recommends taking the “orderly increase or decrease of overall interests” as the minimum standard for balance—quasi-balance. It may be used to appraise the common goal, starting point, daily life and work of the entire human society, as it benefits all. The “quasi-balance” facilitates:
(1) people’s happiness; (2) state security; (3) world peace; (4) harmony between man and nature; and
(5)the display of human potentials.
The “quasi-balance” appraiser is the people and the historical development.
实现以上五个有利于需要五个尊重：(1)自然规律；(2) 基本人权。(3) 经典传统； (4) 相对公正的国际公约、国家的法律法规； (5)具体的人、事、时空……。
To materialize the above five aspects, we need to respect: (1) the natural law; (2) the basic human rights; (3) the refined traditions; (4) the laws and regulations of the state and the relatively just international conventions; and (5) specific persons, affairs, time and space.
In reality, the “quasi-balance” is an ever-changing standard, but its basic idea of “serving the people, letting the people make judgment, and satisfying the people” never changes. To stick to one theory, ism, thought, doctrine, and the standard is to stick to this basic idea, but the methods taken should vary with the problems and times. This is what is called:
Seeking subsistence never changes, though life changes with each passing day. The balance never changes, though all things never stop changing.
Metaphysics never changes, while dialectics diversifies. They are virtually the same, but divided by man.
In general, the highest realm of the “quasi-balance” is “suitable for use”, i.e., the “applicability” that takes subsistence as the final goal and act according to the conditions; love that stresses both the aim and the process, as reflected in the saying that a gentleman lay his hands on the wealth of his desire in a right way.
Each takes its place, does its duties, fulfill its aspirations and abide by the social morality.
Be harmonious but tolerant of difference; practice benevolence according to the common principle; associate according to the priority of position; and it’s the people who are to comment.
This is what the new life of human beings should be.
